Our Story

Hereford herd in fresh green pasture

Rooted in the Land

Summers Ranch has been a family operation since 2001, set on 160 acres of rolling pasture in Sutter Creek, California. Marty grew up here — his family has called Sutter Creek home for generations, and he was working cattle before he was old enough to drive. Roianne grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, a Filipina-Mexican city girl who met a country boy, fell for him, and never looked back. Together they raised a son and a daughter, built up a working Hereford herd, and made this patch of the Sierra foothills their own.

We're not a factory. We're a family that knows every animal by its tag number, tracks every lineage to keep our genetics strong, and puts in the early mornings and late nights because that's what the work demands.

How We Raise Our Cattle

Every animal on our ranch is tracked from birth — we keep detailed records on lineage, health, breeding history, and performance. This isn't just bookkeeping; it's how we prevent inbreeding, catch health issues early, and ensure every animal we sell meets the standard we've set for ourselves.

Our herd currently runs around 40 head of Herefords. We breed for the qualities the breed is known for — calving ease, hardiness, and a level temperament — and we sell through both auction and private treaty. We stand behind every animal that carries our name.

"Take care of the land, take care of the animals, and everything else follows."

Honest Genetics

We track every pedigree and make breeding decisions based on real data, not guesswork. Strong lineage means strong herds.

Animal Welfare

Our cattle are raised on open pasture with proper nutrition, veterinary care, and the space to thrive. Healthy animals produce healthy offspring.

Land Stewardship

We manage our pastures with rotation and care. The ranch will be here for the next generation because we treat the land right today.

The Annual Hunt

Ranching is a year-round commitment, but every year the family takes time for their annual hunting trip. It's a tradition that runs as deep as the cattle work — time in the field, good company, and stories that get a little bigger each year.
